Does anyone have a company to recommend that does good work in transfereing Super-8 to digital format (DVD)? Seems like there are a lot out there, but hard to know who to trust your film to.
Thanks,

Hi Dave!
DVD is a crazy format. DVD can look as good as BetaCam SP yet it is a heavily compressed format.
You might be better off going to mini-dv first and then making a DVD copy from that.
Moviestuff probably will do it either way (just google the name) and see what their rates are.
In the Los Angeles area I recommend Film & Video Transfers.
IF your footage is irreplaceable then you might want to consider a place close enough for you to drive to. If you decide to mail the footage send it in some manner where the package will have a tracking number. Don't forget to pad the inside contents of your box AND label each reel with your shipping information and phone number.
If you don't have a cover for your reels at the very least put the reels in ziplock bags (with your address in each bag that you use) and make sure the film can't unravel.
Definitely a box within a box would be a wise move. Holding onto the film even after you get the DVD and Mini-dv back from the transfer house is a good idea.
